WATERSTONES will open a new store in Derry.

The bookseller, with five stores across Northern Ireland, will expand with a new unit in the city’s Foyleside shopping center on November 5th.

It comes just over a year after Irish bookseller and stationery retailer Eason announced its decision to close its seven stores in the north, including a unit in Foyleside.

A Waterstones spokesperson said, “We’re excited to announce that Waterstones will be opening a brand new bookstore with an eight-strong bookstore team in Foyleside Shopping Center this fall.

“With the center’s popularity, it’s a great location for our new bookstore, and we plan to open its doors on Friday, November 5th, in time for Christmas shopping.

“We can’t wait to welcome customers to our beautiful new store and recommend all of the brilliant books waiting to be discovered by book lovers in town and beyond.”

It’s the latest boost for Foyleside after a difficult time for retail.

Center manager Fergal Rafferty said retailers like Butlers, bPerfect, Frasers, Sports Direct and Game have been registered since March 2021.

“It’s telling that while retail in general has had a tough year, Foyleside can announce another store opening,” he said.

“There have been some store closings and this has opened up opportunities for new retailers.

“We welcome these new tenants to Foyleside as we near the busiest trading season in the run-up to Christmas and coincide with the £ 100 local government voucher program.”
