Start mug: Travis MacGregor 5 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO
Game summary: Travis MacGregor got started on Friday night, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits, three walks and two strikeouts. He now has a 6.62 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 84.1 innings over 20 starts and one relief outing. Brad Case took sixth place.
Start mug: Valentin Linarez 5 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 SO
Game summary: Valentin Linarez was promoted by the FCL at short notice for this start (see comments below) and has done an excellent job under the circumstances. He went five innings, allowing three runs with four hits and one walk with four strikeouts. He threw 79 pitches, 49 of them for strikes. Jack Carey, who also rose from the FCL, took sixth place.
Greensboro had four pitchers on the injured list today, including JC Flowers (today’s starter), Carmen Mlodzinski and Tahnaj Thomas, and emergency helper Garrett Leonard. You can speculate as to why four pitchers are “injured” at the same time, but I don’t know the reason. Valentin Linarez and Jack Carey both joined the Grasshoppers from FCL and Altoona demoted Steven Jennings to help with the workload.
Start mug: Jared Jones
Game summary: Friday night’s game won’t be memorable for Jared Jones. He only lasted 1.2 innings and allowed five earned runs with two hits, three walks, two hit batters and no strikeouts. He threw 54 pitches in his shortened excursion, with 26 for strikes. Sergio Umana followed, and he had no luck getting Clearwater Hitters out either. He allowed five runs (three earned) in one inning of work. Eddy Yean took over in the third inning.
