Has the sun set at Friendly’s in Toms River, New Jersey?

The headlines for Friendly’s haven’t been good for the past few years. Some of the saddest include Friendly’s Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy and New Jersey’s Friendly’s Future Uncertain After Ownership Change. So when I saw no cars and a large dumpster parked next to Friendly’s on Hooper Avenue in Toms River, I had to investigate. Could my favorite * GULP * ice cream restaurant be closed forever?

That Sunday, my wife and I drove by for a Reese’s Sundae and quickly discovered that there wasn’t a single car in the parking lot. That was very strange for 3pm on a Sunday. You’re not Chik-Fil-A. They are open 7 days a week. As we got closer, we saw a huge dumpster. Oh no, we thought. I jumped out and saw a sign pointing me on a wild goose hunt.

“Closed due to lack of air conditioning, it will be open soon” the sign said. When is soon? I clicked on google and got a big “temporarily closed” message. I went to Friendly website and got the same, but still nothing special. I called their phone line and got an error message, a problem with their line occupancy. Then I went to their Facebook page and wrote them a message. No Answer. So frustrating.

Is Friendly finally closed, no. Thank God! Will they open again soon? I can’t get an answer, but that’s what your sign says. Is it going to be a few days, a few weeks, or a few months soon? Let’s hope it doesn’t stand still for long. We need fribbles!
