I remember Outlander being everywhere by the end of my college years! The books were sold in almost every store I went to, the original covers being replaced with the TV show ties. The show was heavily promoted and the cast appeared on many magazine covers.

What happened? I remember wondering What is this “Outlander” and why was it so popular?

After doing some research, I found out what it was.

Outlander is a series of books by Diana Gabaldon that follows a woman who is able to travel through time. In 18th century Scotland, the main character finds love and adventure everywhere. The first novel was published in 1991 and books have been published steadily for the past 30 years. The surge in advertising for both the book series and the TV show was due to the recent release of the eighth volume, Written in My Own Heart’s Blood, and the start of the television series on Starz.

For fans of the book series, the TV show or both, a new book will be released at the end of November! For the first time since 2014, Gabaldon is publishing a new Outlander novel. This is entitled Go with the bees that I’m gone. Its release date? Tuesday, November 23rd – just around the corner!

For fans of the television series, according to Wikipedia, season 6 will premiere in 2022 and consist of eight episodes. The sixth season follows the events of the sixth book, A Breath of Snow and Ashes. Starz has also planned a seventh season to coincide with the events of An Echo in the Bone. It is therefore likely that Starz will continue to renew the series to keep track of the events of the books yet to be adapted.

If you’re new to Outlander, you’re in luck! The Easton Public Library has the entire book series (with the new one to order) as well as the TV show on DVD. Would you like to immerse yourself in the world of Outlander? Here you can find the books and DVDs.
