The residents of the Duanesburg school district approved a referendum on Thursday with 236 to 45 votes on the construction of a new bus loop at the elementary school.

According to the district, the loop will improve safety by removing the student pick-up and drop-off area from the shared driveway and parking lot near the school’s front door, where cars, pedestrians and buses are often in close proximity.

Superintendent James Niedermeier said: “This new bus loop increases the safety and efficiency of the pick-up and delivery times, we will also have additional parking spaces for events as well as a more attractive entrance for visitors and district families.”

The pandemic resulted in an unexpected fund balance, part of which will be used to fund the project. Taxpayers are not affected. Construction will start in June or July 2022, the district announced.

Also on Thursday, voters approved the budget for the Clifton Park Halfmoon Library 2022, 536-87.

The budget is $ 4.83 million. Incumbents Jason DiGianni, Russell Wise and Thomas Madison were re-elected to fill one Clifton Park trustee position and the two halfmoon positions, respectively. They will serve a five-year term from January each year.
