DeLorean Motor Company revealed the first images the Alpha 5 electric vehicle (EV), the brand’s attempt to revitalize the DeLorean name in an all-electric form. Stay true to the classic ’80s DeLorean known for appearing in Back to the Futurethe Alpha 5 comes with those iconic gullwing doors and can hit 60mph in about 2.99 seconds (or 88mph in 4.35 seconds, if you’re curious).

Before we dive into the details, it’s worth noting that the company behind the Alpha 5 isn’t the same as that behind the original DeLorean vehicles — that company went out of business in 1982. A Texas-based independent company that supplies replacement parts to classic DeLorean owners snapped up the rights to the DeLorean brand and announced an all-electric revival in April.

The Alpha 5 could come with a 100kWh battery, offering an estimated range of 300 miles and a top speed of 155mph. DeLorean states that these specs will belong to the “base” power model, but there’s no word on other possible power levels or prices.

While the Alpha 5 does With its gullwing doors and raked design, it nods to its legacy from its gas-powered predecessor, trading an angular look for smoother curves and four seats instead of two. Despite some obvious differences, DeLorean has teamed up with Italdesign, the same Volkswagen-owned design team that helped develop the look of the 1981 DMC-12, and their take on the electrified version takes it into the future.

DeLorean plans to show the Alpha 5 to the public on his website Tomorrow morning but you can log in now for a quick look at the images and specs. However, we’ll have to wait a little longer to see the car in action as DeLorean will unveil the Alpha 5 on August 21st in Pebble Beach.
