Dare County Library has announced that its popular Library Enrichment Series for Adults will continue throughout the month of May with the following two free writing workshops, held virtually via Zoom.

“Write Your Heart Out”

Friday, May 6th from 12pm to 1pm

Are you an author but don’t know how to publish your texts? Or maybe you’re looking to build a daily writing practice and aren’t sure where to start. You can do it! This workshop provides the tools you need to develop a successful writing practice while also discussing the personal benefits of pursuing this creative outlet.

There will be tips on how to get your work published by publications and platforms, and there will also be a general overview of the process and steps involved in getting a book published.

This writing workshop will be moderated by Donna Y. Ferris, author of We’ve Got to Stop Meeting Like This – A Memoir of Missed Connection.

“Making Order Out of Chaos: Finding and Making the Story”

Tuesday, May 10th from 1pm to 2pm

Writing fiction as an act of imagination begins with unlimited possibilities in terms of ideas, story, style, voice, order, sequence, arc, character traits, setting, etc. How are creative choices made among the endless possibilities? How and where does a story begin? How is it “found”? When is it “discontinued”? Is it ever “done”? Where does the development of craft come into play? What are its dangers?

Join author Walter Bennett, author of the Outer Banks novel The Last First Kiss, for a Q&A session about his writing craft. Writers seeking insight and inspiration for their own writing can turn to Bennett for advice and guidance during this workshop.
