• ART IN THE GASSE: The Art in the Alley Festival will take place on Saturday, July 17th, from 11 am to 8 pm in downtown Rensselaer. The festival celebrates the art and business of downtown Rensselaer in Filson Park, which is next to the RENARTWLK murals. Local artists and vendors will be on site and a make-n-take art tent will be set up in the park area. There are also live performances by local musicians and an hourly prize draw. Entry and parking are free.

• BACK-TO-SCHOOL FAIR: The third annual Back-to-School Fair will take place on Friday, August 6th from 1pm to 4.30pm at Brookside Park in Rensselaer. Free school materials for Rensselaer students are offered while stocks last. Parents and students must be present and present a certificate of enrollment in the Rensselaer school district in order to receive materials. The day also features food, music and fun activities for the kids.

• 3v3 Tournament: The Rensselaer Bomber Youth Basketball League is planning its first annual Summer Sizzler 3v3 basketball tournament for Saturday July 17th at Jasper Newton Foundation Park at 650 W. Kannal Avenue in Rensselaer . The park is on the site of the old Monnet school. The tournament will include 10 and under, 12 and under, 14 and under, 16 and under, and 18 and under for both boys and girls. There will also be an adult coed tournament. • LIBRARY: The Jasper County Library Board of Directors will meet on Monday, July 12th at 6:00 pm in the Rensselaer Library meeting room. The meetings are open to the public.

• BIPLANE RIDES: Double-decker, open-cockpit rides will be available at Jasper County Airport starting July 29, with first place airborne at 8:00 am CST. Rides run all day from July 29th to 31st and coincide with the Jasper County Fair. The trips end on August 1st at around 11 a.m. The flights are operated by Bald Eagle Biplane Rides and Goodfolk & O’Tymes Biplane Rides. Tickets can be purchased at the event. • KRBC MEETS: The Kankakee River Basin and Yellow River Basin Development Committee will be held at the Shelby Volunteer Fire Department in Shelby on Thursday, July 15 at 10am EDT. An update on the Jasper County FEMA project and the rebuilding of the bank in Grand Kankakee Marsh County Park are among the many items on the agenda.

• LIBRARY BUDGET COMMITTEE: The Jasper County Public Library Board of Trustees Budget Committee will meet at 9:00 am in the Storytime Room of the Rensselaer Library on Wednesday, July 28 to discuss budget recommendations for 2022. The public is invited to do so.

• MEALS-ON-WHEELS: Meals-on-Wheels low-cost meals with home delivery are now available in Jasper and Newton counties. For more information or to order food delivery, call (219) 756-3663 or visit mownwi.org.

• LEPC MEETING DATES: The Local Emergency Planning Commission (LEPC) has published its schedule for 2021. The next meeting will take place on June 10th with a tabletop exercise, at which time and place will be announced (depending on the COVID situation). Access information will be available on the Jasper County website as the meeting times approach. Other dates to remember are August 12th with time and place through TBD … October 14th with time and place TBD and December 9th with time and place TBD.

• Narcotics Anonymous: The Narcotics Anonymous Support Group meets on Tuesdays at 7:00 pm at the Nazarene Church Fellowship Hall in Rensselaer. This is a closed session. Now is the time to listen and share your experiences, strengths, and hopes. The group helps people every day with problems and additions to life.

• RENSSELAER BIRTH RIGHT: Rensselaer’s Birthright is open at 331 S. College Avenue for normal capacity. The opening times are from Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The curb service is still available. For more information, call 866-4555.

• 500 CLUB REGISTRATION: The Rensselaer 500 Club, Rensselaer’s only Athletic Booster Club, is running a membership campaign. The cost is $ 60 per year and semi-annual cash drawings are conducted for cash prizes of $ 500. Your membership helps support Rensselaer High School and Middle School Teams, St. Augustine Teams, RBI Baseball, SJC Youth Soccer League, Youth Basketball, Summer Swim Team, Pop Warner, and more.
