Community urges to keep the library branch; Springfield Mayor Seeks Time to Save Site | Local

Zacherl said while the Orangeburg County Library System won’t occupy the building, the space could be managed by other units. Full access for 6 months for only 1

In addition to the library, the property includes the Springfield Regional Museum, Orangeburg County Military Museum, Welcome Center, Artisans Center and Gift Shop, and Educational Exhibit Room.

Despite the Springfield Library closure, Zacherl said other branches are doing fine and there are no other plans for closings.

“In fact, the moved and expanded Holly Hill location is booming,” says Zacherl.

Zacherl said that it is the opinion of the employees and many users that the location has already become too small and a larger system is needed.

The Holly Hill office also serves residents of Vance and Eutawville.

“A lot of Santee residents visit the Holly Hill branch because their collection is larger than Santee’s, their facility is open longer than the other locations in the region, and they have more programming space,” said Zacherl. “Before COVID, the Holly Hill site ran its full computer lab, helped with job applications and résumés, ran storytimes every week, tutored homework and various other youth clubs.”

The other branches are fully functional. All branches have WiFi, computers, books, magazines and other mixed media.
