Surname: Jana Brennan

town, village: held

Job wanted: Wachusett Regional School Committee Seat

I’ve lived in Holden since 2005. I currently have two children in the Wachusett Schools, 4th grade at Davis Hill and 8th grade at Mountview. I also have an amazing Goldendoodle named Merlin.

I attended Boston University where I received a BFA in Art Education. I’ve worked in NYC at Ogilvy & Mather Advertising and TJX here in Massachusetts as an art producer managing entire photo shoots including the budget. I also taught art at Doherty High School in Worcester from 2002-2004. Since I’m home with my kids, I’ve also worked at Sweets and Java in town for 3 years.

I’ve had a strong presence at Davis Hill Elementary School since my daughter started there in 2013. I’m a member of the PTA and have contributed to countless fundraisers, most notably the Dragon Dash 5k. I am a classroom and library helper. I also served on the fundraising committee for the 5th class trip to Ferry Beach in the fall of 2018 along with the creation of the 5th class yearbook for 2019.

I’m also a charter member of I Am Wachusett – In Action, which has helped get more money from the state for our regional transportation budget. We have also worked hard to explain the issues related to the school budget and to involve the public in the process.

I’m running for school board because I’ve been passionate about public education since high school, when I was a student representative on my city’s school board.

Wachusett will appoint a new superintendent, Dr. Reilly, welcome. I firmly believe in his goal of prioritizing students. All students deserve a great education in schools where they feel loved, heard and respected. I look forward to working with him towards this goal.

I have also spent many years educating myself on the unique issues our schools face as a regional district. I understand the intricacies of trying to create and pass a budget that needs to work for five cities, given the finances of those cities.

My strongest quality is the ability to listen. I will engage residents of the Wachusett Regional School System, listen to them, and educate them about the needs and achievements of our schools. I will work with parents, students, teachers, councilors and other members of the school board. I believe it’s so important to have open conversations and know that everyone is working together to achieve common goals.

My campaign says “All Together Now” because I believe our community is intrinsically linked and connected in trying to make Holden a great place to live, including great schools. I look forward to the opportunity to work together towards these goals as a member of the Wachusett Regional School Committee.
