Every city has one, the shop, which just seems to have been there forever. Kon Tiki in New Paltz is one of those places. I’ve always called it the “Spencer Gifts” from New Paltz. It’s not trendy, it’s not even full of essentials, but it’s fun. It’s the shop where people who visit New Paltz feel like they need to shop to feel like their trip is complete.

Eclectic and colorful, Kon Tiki is the kind of place you wander to out of curiosity and end up buying something because there is just so much out there that you buy something enviable because you find something you want. However, there are articles that regular customers can only find at Kon Tiki, so it is sad for them to see today that the experience may come to an end.

Kon Tiki announced today (September 30, 2021) on their Facebook page that they will close tomorrow when they can raise funds to stay open. You have set yourself up Go and finance me Support page. According to Post, this has to do with the current partnership.

I think I remember Kon Tiki closed a few years ago and at that time it felt like they were gone forever, but eventually they reopened. Today’s news seems to suggest that if funds cannot be raised quickly, they will close their doors again, this time it seems to be forever.
