Robert Leo Stringer, 86, of Warren, RI, died peacefully with his family on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence.

He was the husband of Lucille I (Duperre) Stringer. Born in Pawtucket, RI, he was the son of the late Irene (Perron) Stringer.

Robert (Bob) worked for Narragansett Electric for 41 years. For 29 of those years he was a lineman, a job he loved until he retired. He was an active member of the Parish of St. Jean the Baptiste (now St. Mary of the Bay) in Warren and served several terms on the finance committee and the ward council. Bob was also active with United Cerebral Palsy of RI and was a member of the Building Committee of CARA Estates, an independent residential facility owned and managed by UCP of RI.

Bob was a skilled woodworker who proudly built his home in 1960. He was also a versatile “do it yourselfer” who loved spending time in his basement shop. Over the years he built furniture, made picture frames, and fixed pretty much anything. Another of his favorite pastimes was watching movies with his wife, Lucille. Over the years he built an extensive film library by meticulously recording and editing DVDs.

His greatest joy was his family, no more evident than during the annual “Clambakes” family reunion he and Lucille held in their backyard, an immediate and extended family gathering at which he was affectionately known as “Bakemaster”.

In addition to his wife, he left behind his daughter Rosanne M. Stringer from Johnston, RI, his son Thomas R. Stringer (Kathy) from Malvern, PA, and three grandchildren, Matthew, Emma and Kathryn.

Office hours are Tuesday, September 7, 2021, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, RI.
