Popular e-books and audiobooks keep students reading throughout the summer

53,000 schools worldwide are participating in the Sora Sweet Reads reading program with free digital books to avoid the “summer slide”.

CLEVE-LAND, May 4, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — As schools look for innovative new strategies to improve reading and learning, teachers are using digital tools inside and outside the classroom. In response, OverDrive formation offers the most extensive Sora Sweet reads Summer reading program from May 4th to August 17th. Now in its ninth year, this free program aims to help educators and students break the “summer slide” of popular digital reading materials through the award-winning Sora student reading app. Currently, over 53,000 schools around the world are opting into the program.

Sora Sweet Reads is offering free access to a variety of popular digital books for the next 100+ days to keep students reading throughout the rest of the school year and summer vacation. Out of May 4th to August 17th, students from participating schools worldwide will have 24/7 free access to 50 e-books, audiobooks and read-alongs for their school’s teens and young adults through the Sora Reading App, the largest volume ever offered under the program became. The Sora Sweet Reads titles are provided by 21 publishers and are divided into elementary, intermediate and advanced levels. Ebook title included 10 Blind Dates, Sal and Gabi Break the Universe, Ironheart and Ark Angel. Audiobook titles include Flannery and game changer. See the full list.

Since its inception in 2014, Sora Sweet Reads has proven to be a highly successful global program that encourages reading in high school students. During the 2021 program, nearly 45,000 schools participated, a 59 percent increase from the 2020 program. Student dropouts reached a record high of one million (+92 percent year-on-year) and the number of students winning at least one of the program’s titles have read has doubled compared to the previous year. Most importantly, Sora has provided ongoing access to additional reading material from the school’s digital collection. In addition to Sora Sweet Reads digital books, students will read more than six million titles from their school’s collection during the 2021 program.

Students from schools using Sora can download the app for free from any app store or use it in web browsers at https://soraapp.com. Students can then borrow from the school’s digital collection and read on all major e-reading devices, computers, tablets and smartphones with a valid student ID card.
