Travel Responsibly: As the region recovers from COVID-19, safety guidelines have evolved for attractions, restaurants, shops, and hotels. Philadelphia requires masks or proof of vaccination in all indoor public spaces. Presale tickets or reservations are recommended or necessary in many places. Your best choice: check online or call ahead.

Find everything on your Christmas shopping list – and treat yourself too – in the great retail stores, creative pop-up shops, independent boutiques, charming high streets, and world-class malls in the greater Philadelphia area.

Great deals and vacation deals here – and best of all, most wearable merchandise such as clothes and shoes in Philadelphia are free of sales tax (some exceptions apply). Additionally, in-person shopping offers an alternative to supply chain delays that can slow online ordering.

Of course, residents and visitors alike are always encouraged to purchase Black and Brown-owned stores during the Christmas season and beyond – an effort reinforced by the City of Philadelphia in the second year of its Shop Black Business Friday initiative, held every Friday in Philadelphia December 2021. Introduced by The Honorable Cherelle L. Parker, resolution aims to support the jobs, revenues and economic impact of these vital businesses.

Last but not least (and just in time for the holidays), fans of the art of the new Love + Grit Storefronts project can enter the Love + Grit Sweepstakes for a chance to win a $ 2,000 package with more than 20 gifts, curated by some of Philadelphia’s finest stores owned by Black and Brown – many of which are on display. Among the prizes: beauty and wellness products from A Man’s Cave and Ursula’s About Phace Rittenhouse Makeup Studio, clothing from The Modern Republic and Harriett’s Bookshop, and housewares from YOWIE and Roberto Lugo Studio. Participants can take part in the competition here or via the QR code in each of the shop windows. The competition runs until December 30th, 2021.

Of course, the holidays in the greater Philadelphia area are a little different this year. Philadelphia businesses and attractions require proof of vaccination or the wearing of masks in all indoor public spaces, while policies and requirements vary in the surrounding Greater Philadelphia area. And while most stores are open, check online or call ahead to see what to expect.
